Habibti conceived the idea for this project over a weekend in early spring, which she describes as “one of the most mentally miserable periods of her life.” Battling heartbreak while trying to find purpose in their future, they put all of their cards on the table and created Make Believe.

The first four tracks of the album flaunt floating, piano-inspired harmonies against catchy bass lines, morphing between club and road trip music to soundtrack the end of your summer. On the other hand, the second half is defined by intense, high energy breaks and vocal sampling, drawing references to some of Habibti’s musical influences like Moby, Fabio and Paul Woolford.

In a literal sense, Make Believe is an attempt to try and put one’s deepest longings into sonic form. If feelings can be put into lyrics, is it possible to hide them between the waves of drums and synths? Yearning for an answer, Habibti takes many guesses in this nostalgic experiment.
